At VMAX, nothing makes us prouder than hearing how our scooters become a part of everyday life. One North Carolina family shared their story of how one scooter for their college-bound son turned into a full-on lifestyle. From weekend trips to daily commutes around campus, scooters are now a fun, functional, and essential part of their lives.
In this interview, they talk about their favorite destinations, how scooters brought new energy to local life, and why they’d never travel without them again.
Interview with a Scooter-Loving Family
1. Jeanette, how often do you use your scooters and where do you take them?
We love our scooters. We take them everywhere! My husband actually books trips now based on how ‘scooter-able’ they are. We go to Washington DC quite a lot as it is about 4.5-5 hours from us. But we have been to several cities in Florida, including Tampa, St Petersburg, Longboat Key and St Augustine.
2. Where do you live and how do scooters fit into your local life?
We live right next to East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. We ride our scooters around campus and to get lunch/dinner almost everyday. They really have allowed us to rediscover and appreciate our little city.
3. How did you first get the idea to buy a scooter?
We were renting the scooters when we would be out of town.. and renting by the minute times 4 people wasn’t cheap. Then when my older son Evan went off to his first year of college in Charlotte, NC we bought him one so he would be able to get around.
4. What made you choose your particular scooter model?
My husband did hours and hours of research. What scooter could handle hills, some amount of rain, had a good battery life, went fast enough with out going too fast, and most importantly had brake lights/blinkers/head light.
5. How did it go from one scooter to the whole family owning them?
After getting Evan’s scooter he decided to get us all scooters for Christmas. I was completely against spending all that money for the 3 of us at home. We have a car.. we are never going to use these.. it doesn’t make financial sense unless we are out of town. I could not have been more wrong!
6. How much do you use the scooters now?
We use them so much we even bought an extra one so when Evan flies home from college over a holiday he still has a scooter here he can use.
7. Do you have any fun traditions related to your scooters?
We now get stickers from where ever we take trips and put them on our scooters. I can’t even express how much more fun these scooters make a vacation.
8. Have scooters influenced other lifestyle decisions, like your car?
Actually, I needed to get a new car a couple of weeks ago, and knew that even though my older son is away at college most of the year, I would still need to get a vehicle large enough to accommodate packing 4 scooters in the trunk area.
9. How would you describe scooters’ role in your life today?
They are 100% part of our life style now.. we have sturdy locks, cellphone holders, cup holders, side view mirrors, we even hid Apple AirTags behind the headlight.
10. Have others around you gotten inspired by your scooter use?
We have several neighbors and friends that will be buying them too as they see us on them so much!
Thank you, Jeanette and family, for taking the time to answer all those questions. Wishing you happy and safe scooting!
